LET'S GET FROGGY: Collectibles, Conventions, Frog Derbys, Frog Lovers and Rayne, Louisiana, the Frog Capital of the World. Oh My!
By ELSIE WALKER
One day my friend, JoAnn, took off from work to go to a “frog auction.” These weren’t live frogs being sold to the highest bidder. Rather, these were frog statutes, frog stuffed animals, frog ornaments...anything that was froggy. The auction she attended was hosted by a lady who was moving and had to clear out her “frog room.”
Before I started keeping tropical fish, I began with creatures further down on the evolutionary chain, although not necessarily always lower on the food chain. BUGS! Insects, spiders, creepy crawlers and swimmers, you name it. To a 10-year-old boy, only dinosaurs rival the appeal of bugs. And in Florida — where I grew up — there are a LOT of bugs. Just ask anyone who’s ever held or attended a picnic or barbeque on southern summers.
