Remember when you got your first bike? You may very well have had training wheels to
help you learn to balance, so you could move forward and enjoy your new acquisition.
Sometimes, new pet owners find their lives knocked a little off balance by the addition to
the household. How do you get the adorable bundle of fur to stop leaving smelly puddles
around the house? How do you keep two kittens from turning into an army of cats?
Training Wheels® is a national program that takes shelter services out into the
community, offering pet owners expert help in solving pet-related problems.

ACTORS, PLAYWRIGHTS HELPING ANIMALS

Earl Holliman and Sue Yocum may live on different coasts, but they have some things in
common: both love animals, both are involved in the entertainment field, and both lead
organizations that help pets. Holliman, a long time movie actor and star of the Police
Woman TV series, is the president of Actors and Others for Animals, a non-profit
organization helping animals in the greater Los Angeles area and neighboring counties.
Yocum is a New York playwright, who two years ago, founded Playwrights for Pets, an
organization which raises money for Animal Haven (which has shelters and an animal
sanctuary in New York).

MADDIE'S FUND: MAKING A DIFFERENCE

A dog named Maddie did what dogs do best — provided love and companionship to her
caregivers Dave and Cheryl Duffield. In fact the miniature schnauzer made such a
difference in the couple’s lives, that they promised if their PeopleSoft computer company
became successful, they would give back in dollars to animal welfare what Maddie had
given to them in love and friendship.
