MEET THE ANIMALS AT ROCKY RIDGE

Up a dirt road in the Arkansas
area called Monkey Run, in the
northern central part of the state
near the Missouri border, is a
good place to have four legs. It’s a
20-acre plot of land, Rocky Ridge
Refuge, that some animals might
call heaven if they knew the word.

A SANCTUARY FOR FARM ANIMALS

Hilda lay on top of a pile of rotting animal carcasses behind the Lancaster Stockyards in
Pennsylvania. Flies and maggots crawled all over her body, and it wasn’t until she lifted
her head, and looked in the direction of Lorri Bauston and Gene Baur that they realized the
sheep was alive. The animal rights activists were at the stockyards investigating animal
cruelty cases and they immediately swept up the sheep and took her to a veterinarian.

GIVE ME YOUR ABUSED & ABANDONED: NOAH'S ARK

At four, most little girls are playing with dolls or reading
books. Not Jama Hedgecoth, she was already busy
with what she understood as her life’s mission: taking
care of injured or abused animals. When Hedgecoth
was eight she visited an orphanage in Mexico with her
father, a traveling minister, and was so moved at the
poverty in which the children lived, she told her parents
when she grew up she would open a sanctuary for
homeless and abused animals and children.

conscience. It is shared by Cheryl and Mike Tuller, who several years ago were duped by
a breeder into believing a Bobcat kitten would grow into an ideal house cat.
